The 69ers were a fun band formed as an acoustic trio by Francis Butler with Mal Hill and Alex Smith in 1969
(of course).
Their popularity grew and so did the size of the band. At the time of recording the album, members who joined Francis included Keith Longman, Brien Bethall, Dave Ovendone and Peter
Knox.
Dubbed 'The Clown Princes of Sunbury' in January 1973, The 69ers attracted huge crowds whenever they appeared at concerts and pubs around Australia. They are all excellent musicians and
singers, but they didn't take themselves seriously. The album is fun music, featuring 19 tracks including their 'signature tune' Harry Rag.
Whenever they appeared crowds called
out "Play Harry Rag, Play Harry Rag, Play Harry Rag".
Now on CD it's available for all to keep. |
